Austin Agustín Santos (New York, December 23, 1985), 1 better known by his stage name Arcángel, is a Latin American reggaeton and trap singer of Puerto Rican and Dominican origin.2 After his return to Puerto Rico, He was part of the duo Arcángel & De la Ghetto. The duo eventually went on to make songs that became popular with reggaeton fans in the United States and Puerto Rico, such as "Agresivo", "Sorpresa" and "Mi fanática" in the mid-2000s.
Austin Agustín Santos was born in the United States on December 23, 1985, but grew up in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. His mother, Carmen Rosa, was part of a Dominican merengue female musical group called Las Chicas del Can, which were very popular during the 1980s. He grew up listening to different types of music and has been a fan of rock music, in particular. Robi Draco Rosa, a Puerto Rican rock artist and former member of Menudo. Arcángel was not always a fan of reggaeton; he claims that it is not his favorite type of music. During the 2000s, Arcángel became interested in the new kind of music, listening to artists like Tego Calderón and Tempo, which inspired him to pursue a career as a reggaeton singer in Puerto Rico.
After returning to Puerto Rico in 2005, he decided to follow in the footsteps of reggaeton music. 5 He became part of a reggaeton duo, Arcángel & De la Ghetto, with which he released his first song entitled “Traficando”. 6 7 8 The duo signed with the Baby Records label of the reggaeton singer and songwriter, Zion. The duo also participated with Machete Music in 2005 during the time they were recording compilation albums. Arcángel & De La Ghetto rose to fame in 2005 with the reggaeton compilation album organized by Héctor el Father & Naldo, Sangre Nueva, with their song “Ven pégate”. They were also featured on Luny Tunes' compilation Mas Flow: Los Benjamins in 2006.
