Milly Quezada

Milagros Quezada Borbón ("Milly"), (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, May 21, 1955), better known as Milly Quezada, is a Dominican singer of the merengue genre, known as «La Reina del Merengue.

His family, of Cibaeño parents (North Dominican region), and four brothers, all musicians, emigrated to the New York City, where she attended high school and college, graduating in 1980 with high honor in Communications & Media, from the City College of New York. In 1992 she graduated as a paralegal in the Katherine Gibbs School in MontClair, N.J. At the same time, the Milly y Los Vecinos group is formed in Washington Heights County, N.Y., developing the musical profile that he would identify for more than two decades to the Dominican diaspora in New York City.

THE DOMINICAN MUSIC
From an early age Milly had a penchant for music. This manifested itself on the streets of Washington Heights when she and her siblings formed the group Milly, Jocelyn y Los Vecinos, in 1975. From the beginning of her artistic career and as a female merengue interpreter, Milly imposed a free and defined style, and broke with the macho molds that had existed until now.
THE DOMINICAN MUSIC
Between the decade of the '70s and' 90s Milly, Jocelyn y los Vecinos, directed by their older brother, Rafael Quezada, made history with their hits La Guacherna, Returned Juanita and Tengo, among many other emblematic themes of Christmas. This resulted in successes and international tours including South America, Europe and Japan, being pioneers in this last place, where they were the first Dominican group to perform live in three major cities: Tokyo, Nagasaki and Nagoya.

THE DOMINICAN MUSIC

In 1995 under the RTP Records label, he released his production entitled In your hands, produced by Rafael Vásquez, her husband and manager for 20 years. During the promotion of this album, Milly's professional and personal life took a momentous turn. The death of her husband caused a great emptiness and confusion. Milly paused in her career and was faced with the decision to retire, but decided instead to launch as a soloist, starting in March 1997, under the direction of her current manager, Pedro Núñez del Risco.
