Máximo Antonio del Rosario Almonte, better known as Toño Rosario (Higüey, November 3, 1955), is a Dominican merengue singer. Toño was born in Higüey, the head municipality of La Altagracia province, located in the east of the Dominican Republic. From childhood, he and his brothers showed great interest in music. They played by playing instruments made from bottle caps, plastic containers, and other items. Soon they began to sing and play in the neighborhood and what would become the Los Hermanos Rosario group, a merengue orchestra that had great success in the eighties, began. He is considered a very good Dominican artist.
The group began with Pepe, Toño and Rafa as singers of the orchestra, while the others - Luis, Tony and Francis - were members of the group. On March 19, 1983, Pepe Rosario died in a confusing incident in a nightclub in the city of La Romana. Toño and Rafa maintained the leadership of the group. In those years they achieved great success in their country and abroad
After having achieved great successes in the group and visiting various countries in Latin America and Europe, Toño decided to abandon his brothers and form his own orchestra. He made his solo debut on April 14, 1990 at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in the city of San Juan (Puerto Rico). Toño became the most popular and best-selling merenguero in that country. Toño Rosario was the first merenguero to fill the capacity of Madison Square Garden. It was packed at United Palace, Altos de Chavón, the Plaza del Toros in Madrid (Spain), the Centenario Stadium in Cuernavaca (Mexico).
